Sunamp Thermino Heat Battery
Heat your hot water more sustainably
The Sunamp Thermino stores heat that comes from a heat pump, solar PV or even off-peak mains electricity.
Use it with a Heat Pump
Your heat pump can charge the Sunamp Thermino (xPlus model). Your heat pump can turn 1kWh of electricity in to up to 2.8kWh of hot water.
Use it with Mains Electricity
Replace your hot water cylinder and immersion heater with a Sunamp Thermino. Use cheap off-peak electricity to heat up the Thermino, then use the hot water during the daytime.
Use it with Solar PV
Use excess electricity from your solar panels to heat up the Sunamp, so it's ready whenever you need hot water. The Thermino has been tested up to 40,000 cycles - more than you'd ever get from an electrical home battery.
Half the space of a normal hot water cylinder
The Sunamp Thermino stores energy 4 times more densely than a water tank, so it takes up about 50% as much space.
Even with all components and pipework, the largest unit still takes up less volume than a standard washing machine.
1. Charge it up to store heat
First, you need to put heat into the heat battery. The Sunamp Thermino can by recharged with heat from a heat pump, with electricity from solar PV or simply via mains electricity (using overnight and off-peak tariffs to save money).
2. The Sunamp Thermino stays hot
The Sunamp Thermino is very extremely well insulated. It loses about a third as much heat as an equivalent cylinder. That means it stays hot throughout the day, and ensures you're not wasting money on heating up a cupboard.
3. Turn on your taps, shower or bath
Cold water runs into the Sunamp Thermino and passes through pipes that are surrounded by the hot Plentigrade gel, absorbing heat and reaching the right temperature for your taps, showers and bath. (Note: The Plentigrade gel and your water never mix.)
4. Control your water temperature
We'll fit an adjustable mixing valve that will limit the water in your taps to a safe and comfortable 38-45ºC. We'll show you how to adjust this valve if you feel the water is not hot enough. (Take care not to adjust this too far, as the Sunamp can heat water to 65ºC, which is scalding hot.)
Heat Battery Technology
How does the Sunamp Thermino work?
Normal batteries store electricity. The Sunamp Thermino heat battery stores heat. That heat transfers to your hot water as soon as you turn on your hot water tap, shower or bath.
Save space. Put it wherever you want.
The Sunamp Thermino is the answer if you don't want to lose space to a hot water cylinder.
Under the Stairs
Even the largest (300 litre equivalent) Sunamp Thermino can fit under your stairs with space to spare for the hoover
In your airing cupboard
Replace your existing hot water tank and get about half of the height back for shelving and storage
Under the kitchen counter
The 150L and 210L Sunamp Therminos will fit under a standard kitchen counter. You can cover it with a narrow cabinet door.
In the hall
Depending on the pipes in your house, the Sunamp may fit in your hall, in a cupboard that's as little as 50cm x 70cm.

Yes. We'll remove your hot water cylinder when we fit the Sunamp Thermino heat battery.
We'll recommend the size of Sunamp Thermino that's right for the number of bedrooms and residents in your home. We'll choose a unit that will store enough heat for a full day's hot water. If you ever do find you're using more hot water, it's simple to add a short recharge cycle in the afternoon to get you through the evening.
Yes - the Plentigrade gel inside a heat pump is food-grade and non-toxic. It also never comes into contact with the water in your taps, as it's separated by copper pipes.
The Sunamp Therminos comes with a 10 year manufacturer's warranty (on top of our 2-year workmanship warranty).
Sunamp have tested the Thermino for 40,000 recharge-and-discharge cycles, which would be equivalent to 50 years of daily use, with no degradation of the Plentigrade material that's used to store the heat.
Unlike a hot water cylinder, the Sunamp Thermino does not require an annual service.
Installation takes between 1 and 2 days, depending on your existing pipework and whether you have an existing cylinder that needs draining and removing.
In general, once it's set up you can forget about your Sunamp Thermino.
If you have a heat pump, the heat pump controller will manage the Sunamp. You just need to set hot water cycles to run when electricity is cheapest. (We can set this up for you.)
If you have solar PV, you need to tell your diverter when it should recharge the Sunamp.
If you are running the Sunamp Thermino off mains electricity (to replace an immersion heater hot water tank), we'll provide a timer that will ensure it heats up during the cheapest point in your tariff.
