- Heat Pump Heat Loss Survey
Before installing a heat pump, it’s essential to fully understand your home. That’s why we carry out a detailed on-site survey and heat loss calculation. This allows us to design a system that is efficient, quiet, and perfectly matched to your property.
Our site survey is a key step in ensuring your heat pump performs efficiently, keeps your home comfortable, and delivers the savings you expect.
While we’ll only be at your property for around 1–2 hours, it takes about a full day of work to carefully prepare your heat loss survey and system design.

We charge £200 for a home survey, but if you decide not to proceed and don't want to keep your detailed system design, we'll refund you in full. (Terms apply.)
During the Survey
What we look for during your home survey
A thorough survey of your home will take up to 2 hours. We'll look at:
1. Full Room Measurements
We measure every room, including ceiling heights, windows, and external doors. This allows us to calculate exactly how much heat each room loses and size the system to keep your home warm even on the coldest days
2. Checking Building Fabric & Insulation
We assess your walls, floors, roof, windows, and existing insulation. This ensures the heat loss calculations are accurate and highlights any improvements that could boost efficiency.
3. Assessing Radiators
We measure your existing radiators to check whether they can deliver enough heat at lower heat-pump temperatures. We'll ask you about any chilly or hard-to-heat rooms. If upgrades are needed, we explain why and recommend the most cost-effective options.
4. Existing Heating & Hot Water
We review your current boiler, hot water system, and heating pipework to understand how the new system will integrate. This also helps us identify any pipework changes or water pressure issues that should be addressed.
5. Hot Water Cylinder & SunAmp Location
We assess where a new hot water cylinder or Sunamp unit could be installed, considering space, pipe runs, and access. Even without a traditional airing cupboard, we can usually find a compact solution.
6. Heat Pump Location
We identify the best location for the outdoor unit and plan efficient pipe routes. This minimises visual impact while allowing safe access for installation and servicing.
7. Sound Assessment
We assess noise levels to ensure the heat pump complies with regulations and won’t disturb you or your neighbours. This is a key part of getting the system approved and installed with confidence.
8. Electrical Assessment
We check your existing electrical supply and consumer unit to confirm there’s sufficient capacity. If upgrades are required, we’ll identify them clearly upfront.
1. Full Fixed-Price Quotation
You’ll receive a final quote within around 3 working days (complex homes may take slightly longer).
Your quote will include:
- A summary of the total property heat loss
- Our recommended heat pump and hot water solution
- Your MCS-approved performance estimate
- Confirmation that the heat pump meets sound output requirements
- Any essential upgrades to your plumbing or radiators
- Any optional upgrades, which you can include or exclude so you stay in control of cost
2. Room-by-Room Heat Loss Calculation
A detailed breakdown showing exactly how much heat each room requires.
Your report will include room-by-room heat loss analysis and confirmation of whether your existing radiators are sufficient.
3. Complete system design
Including:
- Recommended size for the heat pump and hot water cylinder or SunAmp
- Recommended flow temperature
- Expected system efficiency
- Radiator upgrade recommendations (if required)
4. Recommended Radiator Changes
If any radiators need changing, we'll specify the size and heat output required of the new radiators. We can also help you select appropriate designer radiators (if you don't want the standard white panel radiators).
5. Sound Assessment Results (to avoid needing planning permission)
We'll confirm that the system we designed meets noise regulations, with full supporting data. This calculation is required to avoid the need for planning permission, and also ensures that your neighbours won't be disturbed.
