  5. Heat Loss Survey – Terms & Conditions

Why do you need a heat loss survey?

A heat pump only works properly if it’s sized and designed precisely for your home. Guesswork can lead to cold rooms, high running costs, or noisy systems. We don’t guess.

Our Heat Loss Survey and System Design will be undertaken by an experienced and qualified heating system designer, with years of experience designing high-quality heating systems. Your System Designer will be your main point of contact at Cosier both before and after your installation, so you always know who to speak to if you have any questions.

Unlike some firms, we don’t have pushy salespeople – just genuine experts who can help design the right heating system for your home.

What happens during the on-site survey

We visit your home to gather all the data needed for an accurate design. The process will take up to 2 hours and includes:

  • Measuring every room
  • Assessing walls, floors, ceilings, windows, doors, and insulation
  • Measuring existing radiators to check heat pump suitability
  • Reviewing pipework and loft spaces where safely accessible
  • Assessing outdoor space for the heat pump unit
  • Assessing indoor space for a hot water cylinder or space-saving SunAmp Thermino

We also use this visit to plan ahead for a smooth installation, so that we’re ready if you choose to go ahead with us.

This is a non-invasive survey, meaning that we normally won’t lift carpets, remove floorboards, drill holes, or carry out any work that needs making good afterwards.

Access requirements

Someone must be present to allow access at the agreed time. If we attend and cannot gain access, the survey fee is non-refundable.

If you need to reschedule, tell us at least 48 hours in advance.

After the visit: full system design

Once the survey is complete, we return to the office to carry out the design work, including:

  • Full heat loss calculation for the property
  • Selection of the correct heat pump
  • Selection of a hot water cylinder or space-saving SunAmp Thermino
  • Identification of any radiator upgrades required
  • Preparation of a final, fixed-scope quote

Your quote

You’ll receive a final quote within around 3 working days (complex homes may take slightly longer).

Your quote will include:

  • A summary of the total property heat loss
  • Our recommended heat pump and hot water solution
  • Any essential upgrades to your plumbing or radiators
  • Any optional upgrades, which you can include or exclude so you stay in control of cost

Survey costs

We charge £200 for a heat loss survey and system design. This is because the process typically takes a full working day of our time once travel, on-site work, calculations, and design are included.

The important bit: it’s effectively risk-free for you.

If you decide not to go ahead after seeing your quote, you choose what happens next:

Option 1 — Request the full system design to keep

In this case, we’ll send you the full detailed system design, including:

  • Room-by-room heat loss calculations
  • Which radiators you need to upgrade, and what size your new radiators should be to meet the heat requirement of the each room
  • A complete system design. You can even share with other installers if you want.

Your quote is still valid for 30 days, so if you change your mind and decide to go with Cosier, just let us know.

Option 2 — Ask for a full refund

Contact us within 30 days of receiving your quote, and we’ll refund the £200 via the same method that you used to pay. Refunds may take up to 14 days to reach your bank account.

In this case, you won’t receive the full system design mentioned in Option 1.

If you go ahead with installation

  • The survey fee is deducted in full from your installation cost
  • We’ll send you the detailed room-by-room heat loss calculations and system design report
  • We’ll speak to you to finalise any remaining design details
  • We’ll schedule your installation at the earliest practical date or whenever convenient for you

What you need to do next

Within 30 days of receiving your quote, please tell us whether you’d like to:

  • (a) accept the quote and proceed with getting your heat pump installed, or
  • (b) receive the detailed room-by-room heat loss calculation and system design, including radiator specifications, or
  • (c) get a full refund of the £200 survey fee (but no detailed system design)

In any case, we’ll keep your survey and design on file, so if you change your mind or decide to do the installation in a few months, we won’t need to survey your home a second time.
